Agilent 6890 and 6850 GCs: LAN (Overview)

What is required?

License:

Timebase Class 1

Connection:

Standard LAN cable (Dionex part no. 8906.2038)

(Note: A cross-over LAN cable is required for a LAN connection without a hub.)

 Tip:  

Connecting the Agilent GC requires that you know how to assign IP addresses. Otherwise, IP address conflicts may occur, impairing existing networks. For information about how to connect the system via a LAN connection, refer to Connecting Devices to the Chromeleon Server PC  Connecting Devices via TCP/IP (LAN).

Hardware
Prerequisites:

PC

  • Additional LAN card for the PC

GC

  • Firmware A.03.XX or higher

  • LAN card (Agilent part no. G2335A)

 Tip:

No additional LAN card is required for the 6890N GC. The 6890N GC has an integrated LAN port.

If a J2552B LAN card is used:

  • Ethernet hub

Software
Prerequisites:

Control if a J2552B LAN card is used:

BootP server (included in the Chromeleon software)

Control Panels:

HP6890.pan or
HP6890 Single Injector.pan or
HP6850.pan

 

 Tip:  

Starting with Windows XP SP2, Microsoft introduced a firewall. For information about how to operate Chromeleon with the firewall, refer to  Chromeleon and Windows Firewall (from WinXP SP2 on). This chapter also provides important information on connecting your Agilent GC system via LAN.
